If you're creating a website you have to take care about a user friendly construction. Remember: You want your user to like your site, stay there and sign up through your tracking links.
In summary:
Offer
good content!
Pokerstrategy-, -rules and -videos are a few examples for popular content. The more content and the higher the quality of this content the better. If you create two sites about pokerrules this is neither much nor something unique.
Pay attention to usability! Usability is the friendliness of your website. If you put the menu below and the legal notice on top than your usability sucks. Try to structure the menu properly and with as few menu items as possible. Also try to
cross-link your content. If your visitor just reads an article about „preflop poker play“ make sure to put a link to your „postflop poker play“ at the end of this article. With a good usability you increase the likelihood that your visitors stays on your site for a long time and thus the chance that he's signing through one of your links.
Create text links not banners! There are plenty of poker websites that are crowded of banners. Those webmasters think „the more the better“. But the truth is that nobody likes banner farms and almost nobody will sign up through them. Textlinks are much better than banners because you can put them into your content and visitors trust them more. But banners aren't that bad. You only have to make sure that you implement just a few banners (at best two of them one on the top and one on the righten side).
Make sure to deliver actual content! It's not enough to creat content one time. Make sure that you put up content every single day and pay attention to old content. It's embarrassing to put the results of WSOP 2006 under „Hot News“ - nobody cares about that any more...
