Content is king

There are many reasons why content is the most important thing for a website. Without any content the website wouldn't exist and wouldn't offer anything to the visitor. But that's only the most obvious reason why content is important. Here are a few thoughts about content:

Unique content
Of course you can't just copy content from other sites and paste it on your website. You would hurt copyrights and that's punishable! But there are exeptions: Some initiators of content allow you to put this content onto your site. For instance press releases or cooperational content.
But this content is already out there and not unique. Search enginges don't like duplicate content which is content that is already online somewhere else. This could be a reason for Google to penalty your site and you'll lose a good Google ranking.
That's the reason you should only put unique content online and pay attention that this content isn't available somewhere else.

High quality content
There's no doubt that your content must have quality and your visitor has to benefit from it. Content that you can find somewhere else in pretty similar form is nothing special. But it's impossible to avoid this and that's why it's ok to offer some content that other sites offer as well. Examples for that are poker rules, - strategy and – videos brought to you by Youtube or Pokertube.
But there must be a reason why people should visit your site and feel comfortable. It's one of the biggest challenges for Poker Affiliates to find such content. If your content is really unique and delivers a benefit for the visitor other webmasters will link to your site bringing new visitors and better Google rankings.

Choose the right direction
Times have changed. A few years ago you were able to create a simple website that reviews some poker rooms and delivers some poker rules- and strategy articles and make a lot of money with that.
But there are already thousands of sites like that and your chances to succeed due to high competition are near zero.
So it's important to find a niche. Look for a section in poker where the competition is low. For instance Omaha Poker or perfectly for TrickyPlay because it's offered there in contrast to many other poker rooms: 2-7 Triple Draw. These are forms of poker that are only played by few people and where the information on the internet are rare. Look for such a niche and exploit it instead of creating pokernews or Hold'em rules and strategy.

Those three reasons show that content is very important. The more content you offer and the higher the quality of this content is the more visitors your site will have and the more money you make. Your Google rankings will improve if you're offering unique content and some people will recommend your site bringing you new visitors that also recommend your site and so on...
So keep on working on good content!
