Making correct internal links

Linking correctly is a very important point of onpage optimization. When you put links within your site you guide Google where to go and how important your content is. So internal links are nothing else than links that are linking to another page of your site. External links are links to other websites like Google, Yahoo, TrickyPlay or whatever. They aren't point of the discussion now.
A quick example for a proper internal link: You currently have a Pot-Limit Omaha news and within this news you link to your Pot-Limit Omaha strategy articles. That's an internal link that makes a lot of sense.

Linking your content
Internal content links are very crucial. Not only for search engine purposes but also for your visitor. So the first effect of a good internal linking is Google and other search engines. Google loves links and weights links way more than simple content. Google can spider your site more easily and will weight sites that have a lot of incoming links more heavily. Google will pay attention to the anchor text of links so if your link is called „Click Here“ it's pretty useless but if it's called „Other Omaha Strategies“ Google will recognize those keywords.
The second effect of internal linking is your costumer – the visitor. You can guide him through your site with proper internal links thus increasing your website's usability. Suppose you have a Pot-Limit Omaha news article. Then it makes a lot of sense to link to your Pot-Limit Omaha strategy content within this news. If you don't do that and your visitor is looking for Pot-Limit Omaha strategy while reading this news article, he has to go through the whole site and finding the right directions. So you can make it easy for him thus increasing the usability.

Keywords in anchor text
You should always (!) pay attention to your keywords. No matter if you write content, determine menu items or putting up links. The anchor text, meaning the text that describes the link should be covered with relevant keywords. Never use a link text like „here you can find further information“ or simply „click here“. That's useless!
Let's assume you want to link from your Pot-Limit Omaha news article to your Pot-Limit Omaha strategy. You want your link to look like that „Pot-Limit Omaha strategy“ or whatever your keywords are. And if you can't place it into your content properly, set up a connection. For instance: „So he won the WSOP event with a good Omaha strategy. If you also want to play better Omaha check out our: Pot-Limit Omaha Strategy Guides“ while your link starts after the colon.

Be moderate
Imagine every second word of your content is a link. Nobody can read it and that's not all: Google will count it as link spamming and this won't improve your rankings. So you must not exaggerate your linking usage. Try to put a link every 50 words. That makes a total of 10 links on a 500 words article and that's absolutely ok both for Google and your visitors.

Of course internal linking won't boost your Google rankings immediately. But it's another step to a successful SEO. And it's not only relevant for Google but also for your visitors.
